How do I go from skinny to lean

I’m 2 pounds above underweight for my height and I’ve been going to the gym, I’ve just been eating maintenance so I haven’t gained any weight, I want to get lean. Should I go into a caloric surplus or just continue to maintain? Will I build muscle if I'm not in a surplus?

you can build muscle while on defixit or maintenance when you're a beginner

your training probably not on point

So I should be gaining weight from muscle even if I’m not eating a lot?

yeah but you should bulk after you get your training on point because otherwis you will gain fat more than muscles
