So i have played football since i have been able to walk pretty much and my dad has a lot of love for the sport, while my mom not so much and she probably wouldn’t care much if i quit. I am a junior now and my team is utter dogshit, we are 0-30 since i’ve been in high school and have had multiple different coaches, going into my senior year next year i don’t really want to play football and just want to focus on ascending and getting good grades for uni coming soon. I just don’t know how to tell my dad i want to quit since he has put so much time and money into helping me get better and loves to support and watch me play. what should i do

have a one to one conversation nobody else around and just talk it out like how grateful you are and still are about playing this sport but it’s time to hang it up yk cause obviously not making it D1

If you want to quit you have to be assertive, value your own plans and goals. Maybe play the mental health card and be like “dad im sorry you put so much effort in but this sport is killing me” acknowledging his investment

Right now I’m faced with the opposite dilemma, I would like to play football next year (junior year) but my parents don’t fw it anymore. My dad’s the one who forced me in that sport too

Its difficult because sports are so intergrated into american life for a youth, but you need to be gentle and tell them that you feel like its not the path for you and if they shout at you, try to calm them down calmly
