How do people at the very rock bottom even cope?

But what should people with deformity, disability, sickness, dangerous circumstances.... be grateful for? It literally can't get any worse for them.
What would people tell them to be grateful for? To be alive despite them suffering every second?

the lack of affection drops their standards to hell - for both genders - so they get with each other. their only hope is getting to some other subhuman
