How do people just **know** when to speak?

Now before I get into the nitty gritty of it, I was first and foremost diagnosed with PDD-NOS when I was 5. This shouldn't be too relevant but it affects literally every aspect of my life.

I was just in class, and there was virtually no one in the class. So I tried to speak up which is extremely rare for me (Usually in school I don't speak unless I'm spoken to) and I stammered out saying "Why is there no one here?" But I kinda said it kinda quiet and awkward, and the teacher was like "What?" and I repeated myself.

Now the point of it is, how do people just have an intrinsic instinct of **when** to speak up so it isn't awkward? I fear I will never be able to master this skill.

I also can't initiate or maintain conversation, but I'd like to be even a little less awkward.

NT or death

Awkwardness is something you experience. If you don't feel awkward, you can never be awkward. You care too much how you appear to other people
