You have to grow it out on top first.


The most normie way to do this is to start with an undercut and maintain it until the hair on the top of your head and your parietals is 4-5" long. Then you can grow sides and back.

What makes hair look like trash in the early stages is the sides and the nape of your hairline, especially when your hair is uniform length or nearly so.
