How do you keep track of 1000+ people a day you're following on social media?

It seems kind of too much. Before the internet, we were pretty much just accustomed to keeping track of a handful of people day like people in your own suburb, and even going to the other suburb would be weird experience. But, now it's just blown out of proportion. How do some people who are following loads of people, even open up 10000 instagram stories or scroll though that many posts, and comment on that. Just seems absurd.
