How do you reverse the effects of elastics?

So from what I've read braces don't do much, retainers stop your maxilla from growing further, and elastics mess with your alveolar ridges by pulling the top one back and the bottom one forward (For fixing an overbite), I read that this makes your philtrum longer+straighter and makes your nose look bigger...
How would an adult go about reversing the effects of elastics done (To correct overbite) as a teen? I know you can't really do much about having worn a retainer in the past (Besides facepulling, facemask, and Le Fort JFL) but what of elastics?

I think a good example of the effects of elastics would be Ronaldo

i thought elastics could only really fuck your maxilla if you had an underbite

@TheHandcel enlighten me G

for overbite i thought that it would be just a minor change in your maxilla

It is, they just shift around the alveolar ridge which isn't too bad

it couldn't have done that much harm if anything at all

Just don't wear a retainer and mew to undo the damage. I know they say mewing is cope but you're literally just moving things to where they SHOULD be

IDK if that's enough, my question mainly pertains to the rubber bands bringing one part of the alveolar ridge back and the other forward while also lengthening/straightening the philtrum. I think a surgery, probably bimax or le fort 1, could fix this
But yes in general I will be doing what you say as well

No I've done mewing to undo the damage and it's actually worked. Surgery is to make you someone else while mewing just allows bone to reshape to normal.

Remember your teeth were moved to where they shouldn't have been. They say that teeth can realign themselves all the time in orthodontics which is why retainers exist. Not wearing the retainer + mewing will get you on the right track. Try it and if it does nothing at least you tried.

So you think mewing can shorten the philtrum, bring alveolar ridges back to their natural places?
What was your orthodontic experience like, like what exactly did you do and whatnot and when did you get into mewing and how long did that all take to reverse

Got braces when I was 23 for 3.5 years. Had an underbite. Wore elastics. Did have extractions on the lower jaw as well. Mewing I got into 5 years ago, more serious in 2018. I feel like my teeth aren't where they were before braces but they are significantly better than after braces. My upper lip is a bit poutier as well

this is the real answer. i was also fucked by elastics as a teenager and i did this and made a quick recovery. idc if people think mewing is BS cuz i got the results and that's all that matters

ditched my retainer and was able to make rapid progress with mewing. in only 3 months my bone structure changed noticeably. i can provide proof if needed

Please do so, I'm eager to start mewing ASAP it's just that I've got a few things to fix/do first before I can properly begin

here's a front-facing before and after

i tried to stand in the exact same spot and use the same overhead lights for a fair comparison. left pic is october-ish, right pic is today
my cheeks definitely hollowed out a little bit and my cheekbones became more visible. i'm not sure whether the mewing or the chewing is more responsible for this
here's a side profile comparison:

my jaw got a little bit more angular and the deep groove under my lip also softened a little bit.

overall i'm so pissed that i decided to get braces. worst decision of my life. the worst part is that my parents were literally encouraging me not to do it and insisting i looked fine and didn't need it, but my dumb 14 year old ass was convinced it would make me look better. i was looking at old pics of myself from right before i got braces and I had WAY better bone structure back then. i fucked myself over for sure

Me too man but oh well... Can't cry over spilled milk I guess
Looks like you experienced a bit of upswing (Unless you are jutting your jaw in the side profile after pic), that's decent progress and exactly what most people should expect from mewing tbh. Keep it up! :)

i'm not jutting in that pic i promise

thanks and good luck, hope you can get your shit sorted out

did your teeth touch when you mewed

did your teeth touch when you mewed
at first they were apart cuz i didn't have enough room in my pathetic upper palate to mew with my teeth touching. after a couple months tho i had created enough space up there for my entire tongue to fit snugly and i could mew the "correct" way without a problem

one thing to keep in mind tho is that you shouldn't force your teeth together if they don't naturally rest like that -- apparently that causes TMJ problems. if you have correct head posture your teeth will naturally touch together. i found chin tucks super helpful for this. i basically sat in a chin tuck position for multiple hours a day to get used to the new posture

when I mew I can only put the first half of my tongue on my palate because my back half doesent fit as it is to high up

hmm idk really how to help with that, have you tried suction holding it against your palate? that's what helped me learn how to do it. like just suck all the air outta your mouth and your tongue will kinda get stuck up there

Do you have comparison pics of your teeth touching or at least your incisors aligned properly by chance? This is great progress

The upswing effect is really from his lower jaw occupying more presence in proportion to his midface. Your midface will appear shorter in proportion alone when you widen your face, which mandible prominence does

More prominent mandible = midface looks less prominent even if just from you noticing the jaw more and the midface not even changing

Yes because even if you have 0 bone resorption a palate with less teeth has to sit "deeper" into the other palate, thus causing false overbite where the lower jaw has less width than the upper, and it retracts under it as a result.

The problem with most Class 3 cases is they think the lower jaw is the problem so they extract teeth. It does nothing to the upper and the upper remains shit, while the lower becomes weaker and your submental region goes to shit

I'd rather die than extract a tooth tbh because my jaw is already too narrow for my face and I've had zero extractions
BTW do you think orthodontics can narrow the jaw at ALL or do only extractions do so?

Don't know but making an arch smaller is never physically aesthetic because of reasons above. Avoid extractions at all cost because of the fact alone that less teeth = smaller arch

John Mew says braces itself cause damage, the inclination of the teeth is bad for the alveolar bone. The elastics push the maxilla back.
