How do you tell when you need BSSO or just a genio?

It seems that people use side profiles to assess whether or not someone needs Bimax/Genio, but how do you determine whether a person looks recessed from the side due to their lack of lower jaw protrusion vs. lack of chin protrusion?

BSSO is for recessed jaws and People usually get genio when their chin is flat or if you have mental folds

do u have an overbite or not

if yes u need bsso

do u have mentolabial fold or is your chin flat

if ur chin flat prolly genio

these are some indicators

but mostly just overbite/overjet is best indicator

I used to have an overbite but I got premolars extracted and teeth retracted so no more overbite/overjet

chin is flat as well

Only way to truly tell is a pic of your bones
