How does CCW affect the lips?

Hi all,
I'm wondering how CCW (during bimax) affects the lips. I already have slightly protrusive lips, and so do not want to get much maxillary advancement out of fear of chimp lips. I was hoping I could get CCW to allow my mandible to be moved forward without substantial forward movement of the maxilla. But I am confused as to whether CCW will push my upper lip out even more, even if I only get minimal maxillary advancement.

Thanks for any help.

if someone could tag realsurgerymax and sergio-oms I'd appreciate it, I'm not sure how

Do you have prognatism on your lips already?

yes, I think you would get chimp lips
bimax literally moves the lips forward - thats the most visible aesthetic change

if you have a short philtrum and protrusive lips, no point getting bimax

My philtrum's pretty long and my lips are currently only slightly protrusive. I need bimax for functional reasons (breathing) and I have slight nasolabial folds due to lack of teeth support which indicates I'd benefit from slightly maxillary advancement (and I'd certainly benefit from mandibular advancement).

Basically my lips are slightly protrusive because of Asian genetics, not because my jaws are forward.

They stick out very slightly. I don't think it'd be a problem if I had a small maxillary advancement. My main concern is what the effect of CCW is on the lips, since if CCW also moves the upper lip forward then it might become more of a problem.

Well the genetics have to manifest in some way in the jaws to make your lips like that.

Still, if your philtrum is long and not concave, bimax is the way to go, definitely. Just be cautious with the advancement.

That depends on your incisal angle and amount of/lack of maxillary excess. It is hard to answer generally so you should consult with someone and have tracings and predictions made based on YOU.

I've sent you pics and described my case a while back, can you respond to the pm?

Will it move the lips upwards thus reducing the midface ratio slightly?
