How does MSE work? What happens with the gaps?

Can someone explain me how MSE works? It expands your palate/makes your jaw wider, but then it also creates that gap between your teeth.

Then they give you a retainer to get rid of that gap or do they give you completely new fake teeth?

I mean you can’t possibly live with such a comical gap, it’s a MAJOR DESCENSION

You will need to wear braces/ Invisalign to fix the diastema. Also, the gap size depends on what expansion protocol you use. If you use slow protocol the gap will be small
