Well, pretty much this.

When I was in high school, a really good friend of mine desperately asked me for advice. He really needed a good grade so he could move to another highschool, where the admissions were rather harsh. I nonchalantly told him that the only two assets required to cruise through HS or college are:
1. not being clinically retarded
2. at least trying

I encouraged him by telling him, of course, as a sarcastic supposition , that he might have had trouble with the second step. The guy was pissed...
