How does the slipping into Insta DM's thing work?

I hear so much about slipping into DM's but I how does it even work? There are software safeguards built in that stop unsolicited DM messages from getting though

I've sent out a few hell messages but none of them even get 'read'.

Some useful incite from some more insta-savvy youngcels would be appreciated.

the way i used to do it was to have one of the same pics i would use for tinder then message females pretending to care about their interests. i once had a girl invite me to go on a trip with her just from insta messaging as well as another with BPD who would message me everyday then just dropped me. she would tell me about abuse and wanting to die.

Your to old for this but most younger people usually start by having a bunch of friends from school etc added then add a bunch of people who follow the same people even if they don’t know them due to mutual friendship this goes on from middle school to college
