In banking there's a term for this. It's called Breakage based perks. Breakage = benefits offered but not fully redeemed. They designed so customers won't use them or won't meet eligibility criteria but they get something to brag about so they still Market ir aggressively to get more onboard. Had a few cards like this before. I hate them they also have high fees too.

we got scammed! when I first purchased vip it was for the vip exclusive forums. I thought there would be users in there that would post with more effort than the medium.
