How honest can you be with people without fucking up your status?

For example, if you 'have' to talk to people you dont like, you just say you dont want a forced conversation and its fine if you both just shut up. I wonder how many times I needed to adjust my behaviour just to not attract attention. But there would be no real consequences, I dont have a special reputation to lose. In fact the more honest you are, the more people would respect you probably.
