6-8 rear dead-hang pull-ups currently for my first set, performed super strict with full dead-hang and slooow negative reps on each rep, my best max is 14 strict dead-hang reps behind the neck when I was 19, but I worked out more frequently back then, I only do pull-ups once a week now back then I did them 3x a week. If you only do them once a week like I do then your max will never be amazing even though they still work great for building muscle. Also obviously if doing a number max for bragging you don't want to do the very slow negative part on each rep.
