How many mms compared to your normal biting position can you pull your mandible back ? Do you bite at maximal retrusion position, or can you still pull it back compared to your biting position ?

I am trying to understand how tmj works and what is a healthy resting position for the mandible so i need your input.

you mean foward? I can't pull my mandible back from my resting position

no i mean backwards. the mandible also has some capacity for retrusive movements. try and open your mouth gently and bring your mandible back, some people can do like 4-5mm whilst some can do none or like 1mm.

what are you talking about?

I can go 2mm back and 8mm forward. I have no problems with my TMJ.

I used to cope that I can reposition my closed bite with orthodontics to move my mandible forward by 3-4mm using the slack in the TMJ but really I’m a bimax candidate.

how the fuck would I measure that 💀
