Im not pushing it down, but if I breath through my mouth it relaxes and lies flat, but if i nose breath it hops back up, because of my hyoid being raised.

idk what to make of this tbh, surely this would give mouthbreathers an advantage if they’re mouthbreathing at the time of the test?

But a good airway does always mean forward growth tho? I admit that this test is legit in 90% of patients since flat occlusal plane often means forward growth and therefore a good airway. But there are people with flat occlusal plane without good forward growth. The doc didnt mention them so fuck him

Sleepapnea is a result of Bad forward growth no? A flat occlusal plane means=ccw rotation. Most people associate ccw with forward growth and thats true in most cases. But some times there is ccw without good forward growth means some of those people were the uvulva and shit is showing arent “safe“.

I’ve even started putting tape on my mouth at night to keep my mouth closed but I still mouthbreath:rage:

same, i found this about it:

In the original description of how the Friedman staging is performed, as well as in the 2017 update [12], it is not specified whether the patient should breathe or not, nor whether to breathe through the nose or mouth. We believe that this needs to be specified, along with renewed investigation of the correlations with surgical outcomes. In our opinion, breathing through the mouth gives the most reproducible findings.”

TLDR: the guy who created the measure never specified if the patient should breath through the mouth, nose or not at all

but these researchers think that mouthbreathing for the test gives the best findings for comparison.
