Those vertical neck bands you see when clenching or grimacing are early signs of future lower face and neck sagging. Over time, the platysma muscle detaches and pulls downward, worsening jowls and neck laxity. Strengthening superficial platysma tension can be done with certain exercises, but they only delay the inevitable to a degree. Definitive solutions usually involve surgical platysmaplasty during a lower face or neck lift. If you already see bands early, it’s a sign to start skin and support maintenance before major sagging hits.
