Growers (what u are) have less baseline blood in the corpora cavernosa when soft, so the dick looks small until erection floods it with blood and stretches the tunica. Hangers (shower types) have more baseline blood and looser tissue, so the difference between soft and hard is smaller. It comes down to smooth muscle tone, tissue elasticity, and how your tunica albuginea expands.
