He was taller than most girls, so I doubt his breath was directly in their face when he talked. As for kissing, Americans don't usually stick their tongue inside the other person's mouth when they kiss. Their kisses don't involve the use of tongue. It's just the lips touching, so the breath wouldn't have an impact.
