How the fuck do I stop making my hair so subhuman looking?

No matter what it always looks fucked up and tousled, and not in the good way. Like shit Afro way. How do I fix this. I have thick curly hair idk if that helps. I am trying to go for the tousled look except not as fucked up, would layers help? And how do I get those?

I'm in the same situation as you, only that I have thin hair and not so curly. What I did was buy a hair mask to repair it from the roots, and a mango butter shampoo to nourish and repair my hair and scalp.
