I took a course in video editing 4 years ago, as I was interested in documentary film making. It was too much work so I didn't pursue it further. As far as I understand it you have to have fairly expensive editing software (like $500, Adobe Premiere) running on a pretty serious PC for starters. I think there are cloud stuff you can rent now, but there is still a large learning curve.

A lot of high schools (upper middle class), offer courses in, and have rooms dedicated to video editing and development. They provide the kids free use of the computers and software. The kids may not realize how expensive it is.
