So you're sick of second guessing wheter or not you should cut more so you can squeeze out improvment in your face and physique? And you dont want to pay for a machine that scan bf%?
To assess bf %, there are 2 main ways to assess it:
- Looking at the face
- Looking at the physique
Each need constant, independable variables to avoid messing up your assesment.
- Bone mass for the face, you can get a cephalometric scan or understand craniofaciology to know if you have recession or not. A lean face look different on a face with/ without upward+ forward projection. For ex, being lean on a face with good projection give you better cheekbones and jawline visibility (like the typical lm or models) than a recessed one (like a gymcel one). You might be underestimating your forward projection, so to not guess it and give you real expectations on how lean you could look (ie cheekbones+ jawline visibility), get a cephalometric scan (no chatgpt bs)
- Water retention, it plays an enormous role on how lean you look. Ideally you want a good sodium/potassium ratio 2 months prior assesment (to regulate water retention distribution). You can be surprised at how lean you can look without the bloating alone
- Muscle mass for the physique, leaness give you a distinctive shredded look, not a bloaty one. Your muscles and veins pop out easily
- Lighting, probably the most important. Take photos of you in lighting that enhance your facial features. If they're not visible (like your jawline FROM THE SIDE, not the front, your cheekbones or your ogee curve), then you could cut down more because you have high bf% (or remember you could lack some bones, and surgeries could give you the lean look you want). And if abs and veins dont show even on a muscular physique, then yeah, cut down more. For a side profile assesment, keep your head neutral and have a 45° light pointing down on your face. For a front profile assement, be in an obscure room and point light up to your face (about 35°). For a physique assement, point the lighting down toward your physique. Ex of good vs bad lighting:
