For the last few months I’ve really been debating my whole point of existence on this earth and so in consequence I’ve started to read about philosophy. Here are some tips that I’ve learned from one of my favorite books, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
(if this gets enough attention I might do a high effort thread which goes more in depth)

What’s your purpose in life?
In this book, Marcus explains how a life shouldn’t be devoted to material things. He didn’t desire fame or wealth he often even read at the Colosseum rather than entertain fights. He never wanted to have an everlasting legacy on earth he mentions multiple times that “I will soon be ash and a mere name even if that. And a name is only a noise and the echo after it.” Unlike all other emperors he never wanted a legacy because there’s no point. What’s the point of having an empty name echo into existence? (this is commendable because this guy was a Roman emperor which made him the strongest man on the planet). He instead explains how life’s main purpose is to be at one with nature and your own thoughts. He believe that every living organism had a purpose on this planet and so do humans. Like bees make honey we too have a job.

Example of this in a passage:
“Make sure you have this admonition ready for those moments when you don’t feel like getting out of bed”

I have woken up to do the work of a human being. And here I am resenting having to go do the work that is the reason my whole existence. Was I created to lie around enjoying the warmth of the blankets?
“But it’s so pleasant here in bed.”
“is pleasure seeking the reason you are alive? More generally, were you born to feel sensations or take action?”

He keeps explaining the reason for man to exists and compares us to bees.

How to be low inhib?
Well, it doesn’t matter how ancient these manuscripts are they are still very relevant today. Marcus whole philosophy was being a stoic. Now when people hear the term stoic it’s often misunderstood for a lack of any emotion. However, stoicism is learning how to not let outside things effect your mind. Here Marcus describes that we as rational beings all have the “logos” inside us (the gods) in which we are meant to serve and it’s what gives us our rational thinking. Marcus is a big believer that you cannot control outside events but only your reaction. Here are some few quotes from the book that may be helpful to remember.

QUOTES TO REMEMBER FOR LOW INHIB
“remove the inner reaction and remove the presumption I have been harmed, remove the presumption I have been harmed and you remove the harm.”

“Things out there can’t touch your soul in any way whatsoever. They most certainly can’t put pressure on it, let alone change its direction. Because they can’t even access it in the first place. Your soul only pressures itself; it only ever changes its own direction. It make the various things presented to it what they are to it on the basis of its interpretation.”

“Stand straight not straightened” (stick to your own personal believes and do not bend for society even if the believe is unpopular.) also note that Marcus says that changing your mind when confronted with evidence of your mistake is key so don’t be stubborn.

Anyway this is just something I thought to type up but I might expand on it into a high quality thread if I feel like it
