How to choose BJJ gym?

Wanting to start BJJ and im curious how you tell which ones are good or not. I'm gonna take a trial class at this one but can I PM someone the gym and tell me if its legit or not. Or what are some things to look for when deciding to choose one gym over another?

Japanese ju jutsu is more focused on self defence, since it was used by samurais it has shit like limb destruction and poking eyes. Bjj is mainly for sport ngl, but the only problem with bjj is too expensive
