I will be discussing how we can potentially use Phenelzine to reduce irritibility, anger and uncontrollable rage levels on AAS.
First, what is Phenelzine? Phenelzine is an antidepressant and anti-anxiety medication. It belongs to a class of drugs called MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors).
. MAOIs are first-generation antidepressants and work by blocking an enzyme in the brain and digestive system called monoamine oxidase. Monoamine oxidase breaks down mood-regulating chemicals (neurotransmitters) like serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. By blocking this enzyme, MAOIs increase the levels of these chemicals in the brain, improving mood and emotional stability. Because MAOIs stop the body from breaking down amines, they require strict lifestyle management, which is a downside. The downside comes when taking MAOIs with foods high in tyramine, causing a spike in blood pressure known as a hypertensive crisis which will be worse due to AAS and you will die right away. Just watch certain foods you eat.
This dual action sets it apart from more common antidepressants: research in animals has shown it can more than double GABA levels in the brain, and that increase tracks closely with reduced anxiety-like behavior. In people, this translates to its particular effectiveness for anxiety-driven conditions, social anxiety, and AAS induced anxiety which most people get and makes them highly irratible. This is where irritability and a short fuse are often symptoms of an overactive stress response rather than simple bad mood. By calming that underlying hyperarousal, phenelzine can ease the edge of reactivity and anger that comes with chronic anxiety from AAS which in turn often opens the door to better sleep, easier relationships, and more willingness to engage socially. It's not a quick fix, full benefits take usually 2 months to appear, and it requires commitment, including avoiding tyramine high foods that can dangerously interact with it.
Overall, phenelzine really does help increase happiness, temper, mood and reduce anxiety by many folds. Personally, its helped tremendously and I sleep better, and longer now even on AAS.
