How to deal with provocation?

Lets say someone at work hid a bag of me. I cant punch or insult him or else I would lose my job.
What can I do besides confront him about him? Tell supervisor or is this a nerd move?

Imo, if you confront him 1v1 away from the eyes of society and act threatening, it should work. Even though rationally he should know you won't do shit, his primal brain will still register the threat and he'll believe it's real.

The only issue is whether or not you can actually intimidate the guy.

I have in fact done this in an office where there was zero chance I could attack the guy due to police involvement etc but he still acted as if he was in danger.

Now that I'm a bit older, I'd be smarter about it and follow the guy and confront him outside of his house.

I currently live in the same house as my coworkers. I am waiting now for everyone to get in their appartment to go sleep und then get to his door and confront him. Problem is, if he says shit like 'so what you gonna do' because, there is zero chance I am going to risk my job over it

Don't get aggressive or anything but just calmly ask if he has a problem and for him to explain his actions. If he tries to escalate things match it don't back off but keep a reasonable adult tone. Most people will back off if you do this.
