How to draw evenly

I can't seem to find a way to draw symmetrically. All of my sketches has either an annoying tilt, or is asymmetrical. I postulate that guidelines indicating alignment, or more precise basic shapes (like a nigh-perfect circle) could help. Any ideas fellow artists
