HOW to dye GINGER hair light brown without it turning black?

I have ginger hair and it nerfs me so fucking hard. I’ve attempted to dye my hair multiple times, but each time it turns black and I end up looking retarded asf. I need my hair to go from dark ginger to light brown.

It it’s turns like a shitty black and looks unnatural asf. And i just prefer brown over black it would match me more
