I need to ensure I get a palatal expander on my next visit to the dentist. What symptoms/problems should I describe to ensure my chances? I have a narrow + high palate, flat maxilla, and unaligned jaw (due to slight TMJ). I also have a slight underbite and crossbite.

You can tell them you have constant nasal obstruction, mouth breathing, snoring, and difficulty chewing due to crossbite. Mention jaw clicking/pain from TMJ and that your teeth don’t align properly when biting down. Say your palate feels too narrow for your tongue, making speech and swallowing awkward. Frame it as functional problems and pick one or a few from the above.
