You should get on finasteride and 2.5mg oral minoxidil if the balding isn't too bad but if your really worried then do dutasteride and 5mg oral minoxidil. You should also microneedle regardless of severity. If it's so cooked that you need a transplant you should still do that stuff to stop it from getting worse whilst you save up.
As for damage, you should go to a hairdresser for a haircut (they're more knowledgeable than a barber) and start asking them about it during the cut . Some places have special services where you pay to speak to someone about your hair and they tell you how to fix it, how to style it and all that sort of stuff but if you are just friendly with the woman cutting your hair she might tell you for free.
