Hey guys,

I’m trying to optimize my skin and reach that flawless, clear, and glowing look. Right now, my skin is decent, but I'm still battling hormonal acne (mostly around the jawline/mouth area) and some leftover texture.

My Current Routine:

  • AM: Wash my face with a cleanser, then apply SPF 50 with Niacinamide.
  • PM: Apply Benzac 5% Gel (Benzoyl Peroxide).
  • Skin type: Combination
Benzac 5% is a good band-aid to keep surface breakouts at bay, but since the root cause is hormonal, it’s not fully clearing my skin and it dries me out. It also does nothing for overall skin texture, tone, or that perfect glass-skin glow.

Tell me what is the absolute best approach for my specific case to fix the root cause and elevate my skin game:

  • Tell me the best topical products or routines to implement (or replace Benzac with) (like retinoids)
  • Tell me the best internal stack (supplements, diet changes) to actually nuke hormonal acne from within.
  • Tell me the best moisturizer or hydration products to add to my current routine to fix the dryness caused by the Benzac 5%.

Cut off your skin and implant glass

Actually, my bad, it's not just jawline. My breakouts are mostly on my T-zone (forehead, nose, chin, and above the mouth). It’s basically a mix of excess sebum and clogged pores.

Is Accutane still the best bet for T-zone acne, or should I just look into low-dose Tretinoin first? What dosage would you recommend to wipe this out?

Retinoids, suppressing DHT can do wonders for acne too(forum is obsessed with roids so many won't want to admit it, lol). I personally had great success from suppressing DHT + supplementing with oral retinol. Oral retinol has same risks/sides as isotretinoin though but is dirt cheap and still safe at RDA dosages, plus good for anti-aging, eyesight etc. Not any worse than microdosing isotretinoin I don't think. I went from moderate adult acne to clear or near clear pristine smooth skin most of the times, zero blackheads too.

It is more about total exposure over time and giving the body time to shrink the sebaceous glands than megadosing necessarily, that is why even microdosing isotretinoin works extremely well for many people when done over long periods. Some need higher dosages but microdosing over many months/years often gives similar results in a lot of people and you can potentially avoid extreme side-effects too.

Yeah, getting prescribed Accutane in Italy is a massive pain in the ass due to strict regulations and constant blood work/medical bureaucracy. That’s why I'm looking for alternative stacks.

What specific DHT blocker did you use? And how long did it take for the oral retinol to actually clear your T-zone?

Used both finasteride now dutasteride, 2-3x a week dosing on dut. Works fantastic. Oral retinol just worked and effects built up slowly over many months(now a couple of years). Had to take a break this winter for a few months because it was making my skin dry and red as fuck around my mouth and nose area, that was just from 10k IU 1-2x a week lol, but I had built it up in my system for 1 1/2+ years by that point. It really is potent as fuck IMO and more an actual drug/pharmaceutical than supplement. If you try it make sure it is genuine vitamin A and not useless carotenoids/beta-carotene, that is close to useless as vitamin A source in human beings, only provides bare essential amounts for survival not what you need for acne.

Oh yeah I still had brutal insomnia first two weeks, dry eyes/lips/skin a bit. Again it is not some weak supplement it is a genuine retinoid and very powerful. You can megadose it too but then it comes with potential toxicity risks just like isotretinoin etc, but trying as a supplement within RDA range is safe and costs almost nothing. Oh yeah mine comes in form of retinyl palmitate, retinol bound to palmitic acid, one of the ways animals store vitamin A in the body.

Edit: Megadosing oral retinol is clinically proven to work too and was what was used before isotretinoin and tretinoin came onto the market. Some retinol is converted to those in the body as well from retinol in trace amounts, on top of retinol itself being a retinoid.
