Currently going through all the prerequisites to become a lineman.i wanna get into linework as soon as im out of high school. does anyone know where i would start off with to pursue that/ have any experience. I live in washington state if that helps
You land an apprenticeship yet? I'm working as a groundman hoping to get into SWLCAT soonCurrently going through all the prerequisites to become a lineman.
First you want to get an unrestricted Cdl with a tanker endorsement.
Next, not required but doesn’t hurt to obtain your cpr certs, and osha 10
Some people will tell you to go to lineman school, but it’s not necessary. However it doesn’t hurt to have under your belt, if you can afford it go for it.
Then you apply to any and all ibew apprenticeships you can find. They are incredibly competitive to land but once you’re in you are set.
You may want to start out as a groundman first. That way it’ll be easier to get your foot into an ibew apprenticeship.
Since they are so competitive you may have to move to another state to find an apprenticeship. But once you finish it and journey out, you’ll be able to work wherever you want.
Big money is in new construction/ contractor work. But working for utilities is more reliable and stable.
But I’m not in the industry yet so take my advice with a grain of salt.
