For my farewell party I ended up height fraudging by about 2 inches and I was still able to dance all night, run around walk and kept standing the entire night without my legs giving me away
The key is to look for shoes with what's called an Italian rearward last or Italian style last construction. This means the heel counter is taller, firmer, and more contoured cupping the Achilles and the back of the ankle. The result is better support, stability, and extra room for insoles.
I do really like shoes from classic British makers like Crockett & Jones, Edward Green or even Allen Edmonds but they unfortunately don't have this design It's unique to high quality, Goodyear welted Italian shoes from makers like Carmina, Santoni etc you really need to make sure the construction is right or it can get uncomfortable.
Something like this
They typically also have a bevelled waist which is another signature of well made Italian shoes
Next I added a soft gel insole about an inch thick. It slots neatly into the shoe and stays in place making it easy to wear without feeling cramped The total lift comes out to around 2.3 inches and once you're walking and standing it effectively makes you around 2 inches taller.
That's it. This setup is extremely comfortable. No feeling of cramped. None of your sole visible and you can walk, run, dance no problem. Also 2 inches imo is the sweet spot for height frauding
