If I don't have time to research I put it in index funds. If I come across something that looks promising and can understand it and research it thoroughly I will put money into it.

I have some family in real estate and they say specifically for my area rentals are about to become bad investments if the current government loses the next election. Told me to pick up a duplex in that case.

In time of collapse, there are bargains all over the place. The problem or thing is, it's than hard to earn, borrow or have money, to buy it.
