A lot of people try to find out if their palate is narrow or wide by measuring intermolar width, but the easiest way to see if your palate needs to be expanded laterally is to look at the teeth.
Teeth are literally the most important thing to look at to see if you have problems facially. Attractive people usually have very wide smiles with minimal malocclusions
If a person is recessed they WILL have malocclusions because looks come mainly come from an expanded palate.
Anyways what you are going to look for is for dentoalveolar compensatory mechanisms(fancy word) in your teeth. e.g. (lower teeth pointing inward) If you want to see if you have a WIDE palate, you always want to look at your LOWER teeth and not at your UPPER teeth. Upper teeth don't tell the whole story. If you have a narrow palate, then your upper teeth will also have a narrow arch causing your lower teeth to compensate by pointing inward and basically camouflaging your narrow palate.
I've seen many people posting upper teeth pics to see if they have a narrow maxilla, but basically you should instead look at your lower teeth and see how they are compensating.
Anyways, a lot of people are starting to get palate expanders so this is a good way to go about it
