How to Learn ANY Language Without Losing Your Mind

Disclaimer: This thread has no scientific basis. Its just based on my own personal experience and anecdotal evidence. These are things that proved to be useful and effective for ME, but obviously everyone learns differently, so take it as advice rather than some scientifically proven method.
not exactly credentials, but i speak english, portuguese, spanish, french, italian, russian and german
so ig this gives me some kind of credibility yk
so ig this gives me some kind of credibility yk
1. Go hardcore on it
If u actually want to learn a language, u have to live itListen to music, watch movies and shows, scroll on TikTok, look at memes. Whatever u already do in your free time, try doing some of it in the language u're learning
And PLEASE dont freak out when u understand absolutely nothing at first. Thats normal. U're not supposed to magically understand everything at first try
If u dont know a word, translate it. If u dont understand a sentence, translate it. If u have to pause every 10 seconds to figure out what the fuck is going on, then pause every 10 seconds. Who gives a fuck?
Just go back to the original content afterwards and keep going
Eventually u'll start seeing the same words and expressions over and over again, and one day u'll realize u understood something without translating it. Then it happens again. And again. Thats basically how it starts
Something I like to do and REALLY recommend in the beginning is watching a childrens show
U're sitting there trying to learn a new language and watching a show made for 5yo kids. But honestly? It fucking works. The vocabulary is usually simple, people speak pretty clearly and slow paced, and theres a shitload of repetition
2. Train your algorithm
This is probably one of the easiest ways to get exposure to a language without actually feeling like u're studyingMake a new social media account and completely dedicate it to the language u're learning at the moment
Learning spanish? Make the account spanish
Follow spanish creators, like spanish posts, watch spanish videos all the way through, search for spanish memes, read the comments, follow random accounts, join communities. Basically do everything u normally do but in spanish or whatever language u're trying to learn
U want the algorithm to eventually look at u and go:
"Yh, this luh nga is probably from Spain or sum
Its kinda of water but it really helps
U'll start picking up stuff that textbooks usually dont teach u, like slang, abbreviations, internet humor, how people text, random expressions, cultural references, words that people actually use in everyday conversations
Cause knowing perfect textbook grammar is cool and all, but if u want to talk to actual native speakers, u probably dont want to sound like a fucking textbook yk
U need to understand how people actually talk
3. Use Duolingo if you want, but dont make it easy
Im not gonna sit here and tell you Duolingo is gonna make you fluent by itself, It wontBut its still a pretty useful tool, especially when u're starting
One thing I do and I personally recommend is set the difficulty to the second hardest one available
U're probably gonna get shit wrong
Good
Thats literally what you want
If the app is giving you everything and u're just clicking through it without thinking, u're not really forcing your brain to do much
Sometimes struggling with a sentence for 20 seconds is more useful than instantly getting it right because the answer was basically handed to you
It might feel more annoying, but thats kinda the point
4. Try to make the language part of your everyday life
This is where you can start really fucking tryhardingOnce u're somewhat comfortable with the basics, start translating your own thoughts into the language
And I mean literally your thoughts
U're walking somewhere and think:
"I need to buy some food"
Try saying that in your head in the language u're learning
You see something weird? Describe it
U're hungry? Think about what you want to eat in the language u're learning
U're planning what u're gonna do later? Think about it in the language u're learning
And yh, this shit is annoying as fuck at first
U'll spend like 30 seconds trying to figure out how to say the most basic sentence because you dont know one random word
Sometimes u'll know exactly what you want to say in your native language but have absolutely no fucking idea how to say it in the other one
So u'll have to stop.
Look it up.
Try again.
And then keep going.
But thats exactly why I think its so useful and efective
U're not just consuming the language anymore, u're actually trying to reproduce it
And every time u get stuck, u're basically finding a hole in your own vocabulary or grammar
U don't know how to say something?
Now u know what you need to learn
Do this and u'll slowly stop needing to translate everything in your head. U'll start forming sentences faster. Then eventually, u'll catch yourself thinking in the language without even trying
5. Once your grammar is decent, start practicing your speaking
At some point you have to stop hiding behind your keyboard ykU can know thousands of words and still completely fucking freeze when someone asks you a basic question
Thats because speaking is its own skill
Eventually you just have to bite the bullet and actually use the language with another person
Also, learn songs
Look up the lyrics, translate the parts you dont understand, sing along, even if your pronunciation sounds like absolute retarded dogshit
Its actually pretty useful for pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence structure and getting used to the rhythm of the language
And obviously, talk to native speakers
OmeTV is pretty useful for this
Your first conversations are probably gonna be fucking embarrassing
U're gonna forget words you KNOW
U're gonna pronounce something horribly
U're gonna say a sentence that made perfect sense in your head and somehow comes out sounding like utter bullshit
Who cares?
U're learning
U're supposed to suck at first
6. Eventually, stop translating
If u keep doing all this, something kinda weird starts happeningU see a sentence and just... understand it
U hear an expression and dont have to think about what every individual word means
U start recognizing slangs
U understand jokes
U start noticing when someone is being sarcastic, unless u're autistic ofc
U can tell when something sounds formal, casual, weird, outdated, etc
And eventually, u catch yourself thinking in the language
Thats when things start getting really interesting
Because the language stops feeling like something u're constantly studying and starts feeling like something you actually know
And honestly, thats the whole fucking goal
7. Last but not least
Keep going even when u feel like u're making zero progressBecause u're gonna have days where you feel like u've learned an insane amount
And then you're gonna have days where you forget a word u've known for six months and genuinely start wondering if your brain has fucking stopped working
Thats not normal it means u're retarded, kidding

Language learning is weird because progress isnt always obvious
U dont just wake up one morning and go:
"Ouu shi, Im talking like a real nga now"
Its more like u're collecting tiny pieces over months
One word here
One expression there
A conversation u couldnt understand six months ago suddenly makes sense
A joke that would've gone completely over your head suddenly makes you laugh
And then one day u're watching something, or talking to someone, and you realize:
Wait... Im not translating anymore
Thats when you know u've made it
Eventually, u go from:
"Im learning spanish"
to
"I speak spanish"
And honestly?
Thats pretty much the whole fucking game
Now go become a self-taught polyglot to geomaxx and rizz foids in international scale
