How would a normal maxilla would look like:
Good forward projection
How to know you have a recessed maxilla?
Symptoms of a Recessed Maxilla:
- Flat or sunken cheekbones
- Prominent nose
- Thin upper lips
- Pronounced lower lip
- Misaligned teeth
- Underbite
- Sleep apnea or snoring
- Difficulty breathing through the nose
- Chewing difficulty
- Loss of tooth enamel
What can cause a recessed maxilla? - Thumb sucking
- Improper tongue position
- Lip sucking
- Mouth breathing
- Nail biting
- Soother/pacifier use
How to fix a recessed maxilla?
1. Orthodontic headgear
2. If you are still in puberty stop mouth breating or any bad habits like smoking or anything. You can start mewing as a softmax and nose breathe (These dont help as much but stops getting a more recessed face and if still early in puberty can help)
3. Surgery
Surgery is the fastest option to achieve forward growth of the maxilla.
4. Dermal fillers
Dermal fillers are injectable gels placed beneath the skin to temporarily restore volume, enhance facial contours, and improve the appearance of features affected by a recessed maxilla.
Dermal fillers are only temporarily but a good effect.
Thumbpulling:
Never seen real evidence that thumbpulling really works. Pushing up on the palate overtime fucks up your airways. If you really want a good maxilla wear orthodontic headgear or get surgery the best proven ways that actually work.
Also fixing your posture can make your face look better. If your neck is tilting forwards that is bad. Do exercises and try to keep your head straight.
