how to see what do I really look like?

When I take a pic in a mirror the pic shows exactly what I see in the mirror. But when I take a pic with the selfie camera I look different. Is lens distortion real?

If you have a compact midface you'd look good in both pictures and real life (granted no major failos). But if tall midface especially if coupled with big nose don't even bother taking selfies distortion will wreak havoc on your features.
