How to straighten hair?

I have very wavy/curly hair but it's very thick that it almost looks like an afro some days. I have tried oiling it using leave in conditioners but they both don't work or have very minimal effects. Is there a solution for this puffy appearance or is protein/keratine hair treatment the only way.

My issue is more so that it's very thick to the point that it's just unmanageable my hair is actually 2c
