Basic tips/knowledge personally collected through years of shitty social interactions
Self deprecating humor is one of the many ways to make you seem more approachable and give you a jester halo. Nttards will always try to put you down and find something wrong with you and the best thing to avoid that is to do it yourself.
1. Don't be betabuxxcuck and constantly make fun of yourself
Water, but if you're constantly making fun of yourself, you're gonna seem like a bitchboy with no backbone and it will give you the opposite effect of what you're trying to achieve. Self deprecating humor only works in moderation. The occasional joke makes you seem comfortable in your own skin, and shuts down annoying insults for a while. If every other sentence is at your own expense people will just see your genuine insecurities
2. How/when to use self deprecating humor
The best time to a self deprecating joke is when you've, A. made a mistake, B. when people are already making fun of you. For example, if you just cold approached a girl at a mall and she rejected you and walked away, don't try to defend yourself. Trying to argue back and giving them a reaction only fuels insults instead of actually protecting you from them. Instead, just say something that acknowledges your mistake and pokes fun at yourself and laugh along with them, this more often than not, changes the situation from them laughing at you, to them laughing with you.
3. Delivery matters
If you show that the joke/insult/situation actually bothers you within your delivery of the joke, it will most likely have a lessened/undesired result. You need to project that you don't care about what happened and that nothing bothers you. If you show that you are genuinely insecure about it, they'll usually keep pushing it because they've found something that gets a reaction
endnote: obviously this isn't going to fix every social interaction you have, people have and will always find a way to make your life miserable. if you aren't good looking, tall, statusmaxed, etc, this probably wont have as much of an effect as you're hoping.
