You'd have to be extra careful with every choice you make and mostly stick to the same path of the original timeline, so a good memory of the early events in your life should help with that but it's no guarantee you won't make a mistake.

Then again not every [unintentional] change has to be bad, just different.

I also think small changes here and there that don't affect the overall timeline shouldn't really have a very drastic impact on it either.
Say like investing in a company that other people already have too, or burying treasure to find later, or even just buying some cheap bitcoins to sell in later in 2017 or some shit.
