How can girls look the way they do, when, seemingly, they capture the footage with their smartphones? For example a close up footage such as this, would make my head look like over inflated bloated balloon, yet she's looking just fine. Facial features aren't obviously distorted. Feel like I'm missing/overlooking something here.

No, it's about tech specs. It's not ideal, but the difference is not going to be big in comparison to a "top" camera. In the end, the differences are very minute between the phones. Cameras are really cheap.
You have to exit the smartphones really, to see big improvements.

Like something is very wrong with her nose, it looks good. It should look bad. Smartphones makes noses look much worse than irl. Also fucks up facial definition towards the edge of the face/contours. She seems completely untouched, as if she was actually in front of you for real.
