during ww2 it was not uncommon for soldiers to walk/take cover behind a tank.

sometimes during a battle tank drivers would panic and accidentally run over their own soldiers while trying to retreat. this happened so frequently at one point that soldiers were ordered to stay at least 5 metres away from a tank to prevent getting crushed
