I think he's talking about self pitying behaviour. Even I used to self pity a lot but I don't think you are self pitying woe is me kind of guy. You are working to afford for your surgeries, making plans and are actively trying to improve your life despite having pessimistic views about lives. You are not a doomer. you are a fighter.
