what i did:

go to college for cs, top of my class
apply to an internship junior year, land it then quit a week later
then applied to an internal job posting from uni and landed it
had plenty of personal coding projects that stood out from basic shit / applied to my life and hobbies

I started free lancing from 2nd year and did various internships on the side by my 3rd year I had a dozen top tier projects after that I did some grinding on leetcode for DSA, and OOPs, DBMS and Computer networks and landed a very lucrative and high paying internship in my 4th year which got converted to a PPO
