tbh buddhism would be my ultimate escape if life didn't go as I planned

They say desire is the root of all suffering. Perhaps it is true, but... teleology is the root of all action, and there's not finality without desire. So if you truly follow buddhism you end up like those Japanese zazen who waste their life sitting and suppressing all thoughts for 12 hours per day, suddenly they are old and achieve nothing, they didn't even think about anything in their lives.

to be a Buddhist u have to limit ur expectations
thats why only people who've failed in life r buddhists

I can recommend D. T. Suzuki's books for Zen buddism.
Also Alan Watts' lectures are entertaining if you're just getting into it, although hardcore buddists say that he doesn't understand it.

I am read this book called buddha and his dhamma

Well I am not going full monk mode route I am reading about Buddhism cuz I find it interesting, I want to apply some of the teachings yk I feel like my life is really unhinged rn maybe being religious will give it a purpose

For sure man I would love to check out those, but I am an antheist guy I don't like when they get too unscientific. I liked Buddhism over the religion cuz it felt more logical and I wanted to apply some of his teaching in my own life

I didn't meant that in an offensive way I respect Buddhism

Watch the videos on Keanu Reeves talking about buddhism pretty intresting stuff
Damn even Keanu reeves is buddhist? Makes sense why he has so humble and kind personality

Neither of these are like that. Alan Watts is more like "buddism for the masses" and D. T. Suzuki is more serious, but I didn't notice too much of wishy-washy woo-woo stuff there.

Literally anything by them is good. Search it up and pick the title that you like the most.
