To correct my overbite I had as a child my ortho had me wear headgear that RECESSED MY MAXILLA backwards to match my RECESSED mandible. By some miracle, I do not look uber recessed but it is still enough that I have a deep mental crease and a BONELESS BLOATED face despite gymmaxing.
In order to get jaw surgery to correct the recession I will have to jump through all the following hoops:
1. Come up with a BS excuse to get a full facial CT scan from an imaging clinic
2. Consult with multiple overseas maxfacs to find the best surgical plan (fuck the US and the insane cost of surgery here)
3. Miraculously find a local ortho who will work with an overseas surgeon
4. Somehow contact my old ortho and gather my old treatment plans and dental movements without coming across as insane for wanting to undo the previous work that gives me perfect occlusion
5. Undergo braces as an adult and face the consequent social shit testing at work
5. Save up enough not only for the cost of surgery but also enough to cover potential revisions, flight costs, hotel and hospital fees, and enough to cover the extensive time off from work
6. Either come up with some convoluted story to cover the fact of the surgery to family and friends or just flat out admit it but face the gaslighting and social fallout
FUCK any orthodontist who knowingly recesses a growing child’s face and condemns them to a lifetime of subhumanity that takes so much work to escape.
