Hello. I'm [19F] a member of my university's Asian club. My university, and where I live, has a very small Asian population. It's so small that in class, when we made a race population chart, we were placed in the "other" section. So, I joined the club, and it's been pretty fun so far. The only thing that irks me are some of the club members. Like, we had a Valentine's Day party, and some people brought their girlfriends/boyfriends. The amount of white people who entered the club room (for the party) was a lot.
I didn't say anything about it since people's relationships aren't my business. A few of the girls though thought it would be great to physically push me towards some of their white friends. I'm not close to these girls at all, but they knew that I was single. They don’t know though that I'm kind of seeing one of the Asian guys in the club. We're not official yet (he's my crush), but we're working on it. He even got me some Valentine's gifts.
I ended up telling them that I wasn't interested in their friends. They got offended (I don't know why) and asked why. I just told them about my preference for Asian men (due to similar cultures/childhoods). They straight up said that I'm being like discriminatory (wtf?) and rude. They ignored me after that. But when the club recently celebrated LNY, they were being so disrespectful; even those in the club who don't celebrate it were respectful and open to it. At least not everyone in the club is like them.
