there are a few things you can do as a retail simple quant, options data, coding strategies, or creating math formulas
the markets are ran on math formulas and if you study math probability and finance you can create formulas
using tools like gamma exposure and other indicators that has backed up historical data that gives profitability in the markets is quant trading
if you can:
1. code a profitable algorithm
2. create mathematic formulas that can profit in the markets
3. code historical data to back test your strategy over 2+ years
than you are able to be a retail quant/simple quant
i personally trade orderflow (true level 2 market data) combined with quantitative tools such as gamma exposure and volume weighted average price
